Distance Education Network Update Implementation Timeline

Much thought went into the proposed implementation timeline to develop an aggressive, yet achievable, upgrade schedule.
Considerations were taken into account such as:
- Consultation with distance learning consortium directors and other ESU staff
- Utilizing non-student days (summer vacation) for network upgrade to minimize the risk to education entities
- Retirement of JPEG/MPEG2 equipment in the shortest period of time possible
- A focus on high school sites as LB 1208 suggested
- Emphasis on areas with greatest chance of equipment failure
- Upgrade of entire infrastructure regions instead of ordering by date of contract expiration
- Trying not to exceed the capacity of the Education Innovation Fund for equipment reimbursement
- Reuse existing fiber infrastructure to sites and provide opportunities to upgrade 17 fiber-less high schools
- Preservation of regional distance education relationships and control of backbone traffic
- Input and approval from the Distance Education Council
