Interactive Field Trips and Class Segments

Both the Homestead National Monument (Beatrice) and the Henry Doorly Zoo (Omaha) are presently content providers for schools in southeastern Nebraska. In addition to interactive field trips, schools are able to receive standards-based classroom instructional segments from both entities via telecommunications.
This will include the use of interactive video as well as video streaming capabilities to bring local and national students into the unique setting of the Platte River in central Nebraska.
Lesson plans have been prepared by teachers to heighten student instructional experiences during these interactive field trips and class segments. Internet2 enhances the quality of these sessions through greater throughput and also expands the quantity of these sessions by making them available to a wider audience of classrooms throughout the state and nation over Internet 2.
The increase in quality of instruction and quantity of learners will leverage the instructional content that these organizations provide which will stimulate even more content and encourage other potential content providers (e.g. Joslyn Art Museum, Strategic Air & Space Museum, Ashfall Fossil Beds, and Nebraska State Historical Museum).
Internet2 SEGP membership will help research the premise that interactive field trips and special standards-based instructional segments are a viable way to enhance K-12 instruction and improve student performance.
