The Peter Kiewit Institute Lewis and Clark Project
12/22/2004
The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) houses both the University of Nebraska-Omaha College of Information Science & Technology and the UNL College of Engineering. The PKI Lewis and Clark Project has received grants from the National Park Service Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to:- Provide a searchable online database of Lewis and Clark resources provided by entities participating in the Bicentennial
- Create a user-friendly GIS interface to datasets related to the Trail and the Bicentennial
- To capture, and disseminate videos from the Corps of Discovery II traveling exhibit, Bicentennial Signature events and other sites along the Trail.
Live video reports from the Trail have been distributed across Internet 2 on a number of occasions to date, including the Spring 2004 Internet 2 meeting in Washington, D.C. The web site for the project www.lewisandclarkgnet.org offers a variety of lesson plans in numerous subject areas for elementary and secondary students.
Enabling Internet 2 access to K-12 schools across Nebraska would allow them to also take advantage of the compelling video resources provided through this project, thereby enriching the educational experience.
