LB 1208 encourages distance education courses using Network Nebraska.
1/23/2006
The distance education improvement plan is centered on three general principles:
- The plan recognizes school districts’, ESUs’, and public postsecondary education institutions’ responsibility for making decisions related to participation in distance education.
- The plan encourages the exchange of distance education courses using a statewide network, currently known as Network Nebraska.
- The plan provides for statewide coordination through a new entity, to be called the Distance Education Council.
A 103-page report had been released and posted to the Unicameral website: http://www.unicam.state.ne.us/reports/committees/distanceed_1205.pdf and the legislation to embody the final report recommendations was co-introduced by Senator Raikes, Pederson, Baker, and Stuhr on January 18 as LB 1208 http://www.unicam.state.ne.us/pdf/INTRO_LB1208.pdf.
